New York Hotel Photographer Challenges
New York Hotel photographer Antonio Cuellar is called to work in Playa del Carmen Mexico. “Working Internationally is always an interesting experience” especially for what you have to go through in customs. Luckily Mexico is no stranger to Tv, Film and Photography crews to the customs process is very friendly. As an Architectural photographer traveling is a big hassle because of the amount of gear needed for the Job. If you are based out of New York or Miami Florida you can always become a Part of the American Society of Media Photographers and receive discounts on American Airlines for photographic equipment. This is highly recommended.
I usually travel with 5 cases of gear and of course a carry on and a backpack. My lenses and Camera travel with me and lighting equipment would travel underneath the plane. Equipment insurance is a must. Liability insurance will not cover you internationally but will cover the gear. This really comes in handy if you are traveling to a country you don’t know your way around. Architectural and Interior design Photographers, as opposed to other creative photographic fields, get to do a lot of traveling. We usually travel to where the subjects are as opposed to bringing the subjects to our studio.
Even though I traveled from New York for this gig, I usually bring most of my gear, especially if you are not familiar with the location. Better to have gear and not need it than the other way around. Turns out all the gear was needed. Everything from strobes, to halogen continuous light to white balancing gels and all lenses in my arsenal. Bellow, you can see the result of my work. This is a small compilation of the images. Each one of these images took at least 2 hours to shoot and are combinations of several shots. NOT MULTIPLE EXPOSURES. None of these images are HDR. At the end of the day, you have to reassure your clients it was definitely worth the money to hire a New York Hotel photographer as opposed to hiring a local one.
