This week we are taking an Architecture City Guide to Miami based on a collection of images from an architectural photographer. Miami architectural styles range from austere corporate architecture, as it has the largest concentration of international banks in the United States, to colorful and playful architecture that reflects its beach and Latin American culture. Architecture lovers can’t miss Miami Beach’s Art Deco District or its old Spanish heritage. I have put together a list of 6 contemporary buildings that range from a small Midtown Motel to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.

MacArthur Causeway: ( In honor of General Douglas MacArthur) This is a six lane causeway which connects Downtown Miami Florida and Miami Beach via Biscayne Bay. The construction of this Bridge started in 1917 and was completed in 1926. It was given its current name in 1942 and its original two lane road has undergone several expansions over the years.(Antonio Cuellar architectural photographer)

Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts: The second largest performing arts center in the United states in size after the Lincoln center in New York. The Arsht center was a modification from its original name “Carnival Center”. The structure was built in 2007 and it is home of the Florida Grand Opera, Miami City Ballet and the New World Symphony. American Airlines Arena: Opened in December 31, 1999 with a construction cost of $213,000,000. Designed by architecture firms Arquitectonica and 360 Architecture. It is home to the basketball team The Miami Heat. (photography by Antonio Cuellar Miami Architectural Photographer)

The Colony Hotel: Another Architectural landmark in Miami, The Colony Hotel is one of the most photographed hotels in the world. Situated in the Art Deco District of South Beach, the Colony is a classic 1939 boutique style hotel that offers an intoxicating ambiance. Designed by architect Henry Hohauser and buit in 1930′s, it is one fine example of art decco style. (photography by Antonio Cuellar Miami Architectural Photographer)

Bacardi Building: Designed by Architect Enrique Gutierrez it is located along Biscayne Boulevard on an area designated MIMO Biscayne Boulevard Historic District. It was built in 1963 and photographed in 2007 by Antonio Cuellar a Miami architectural photographer

South Pacific Motel: Built in 1953 this motel is also part of the MIMO era of the 50′s and 60′s along with many other architectural beauties such as the Biscayne Plaza shopping center, Crystal House, Jackie Gleason House and Lincoln Road Mall. Bayside Marketplace: The entertainment complex opened in 1987, while a major real estate boom was taking place. Instead of being planned to revitalize a specific area as its sister properties had, Bayside complements an existing marina. The shopping center was frequently featured on the crime drama TV series Miami Vice.
